A 'Global School' integrates a wider, global dimension, into the core curriculum and whole school ethos, developing active, global citizens. This is achieved through creative, cross-curricular work and by implementing initiatives from policy to practice.
We have been working with two Brighton & Hove primary schools: Elm Grove Primary School and Cottesmore St Mary's RC School, both of which are on a journey to become 'Global Schools'.

All teaching staff have been involved with training to encourage planning and implementation of global citizenship, school wide and throughout the year.

BPEC’s school team has been working with Judy Hawker, Brighton & Hove Primary Languages Consultant, following a successful teacher’s conference for primary language coordinators, which examined the global dimension in relation to language learning.
Colourful and creative resources for teaching Spanish while learning about Mexico and French whilst learning about Morocco are now available for teachers to borrow.

Global learning for learning teachersBPEC's school team has begun its fourth year of working with a team of lecturers on the BA Primary Education, University of Brighton. The dedicated team are developing dynamic ways to integrate the global dimension within their course modules.
In 2009, Global Citizenship was introduced in the first semester to first year BA students. This commences what will be a progression of understanding throughout their four year course.
'Making Connections', a third year module, examines cross curricular projects and requires students to develop work linking two foundation subjects and integrating an aspect of Global Citizenship within them. BPEC provides targeted Global Citizenship sessions to assist students. A module on 'International Education' is also delivered with third year BA students which has been very succesful in the last two years in developing understanding of global learning.
